About

Alcatraz East is a privately owned for-profit crime museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Opened in 2016, it was formerly operated as the National Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington, D.C. The museum gives a behind-the-scenes look at crime history in America. The historical area of the museum displays how crimes were committed, cases were solved, and how jury members came to an agreement on final sentencing. Mind-boggling collection includes several of John Wayne Gacy's paintings and his wallet, in addition to the notorious clown costumes.

They also have Charles Manson's guitar, Ted Bundy's VW beetle, YES, this is THE O.J. Bronco, and the car used in the death scene of the Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway Bonnie and Clyde movie (artifacts from the actual death car are upstairs). At the desk, they stop selling tickets an hour before close and warn people coming in that it could take two hours or more to go through the whole thing. Also a bit pricey (worth it) and card-only, no cash, although you can come up with coupons pretty easily from the tourist pamphlets. There is an open-air jail cell photo op a short distance from the museum, around the corner in front of the Margaritaville restaurant.

Very informative museum on Criminals, Law Enforcement, and Correctional Institutions. There was a vast amount of artifacts and interactive displays. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. The staff were friendly and interactive. We found ourselves there for a couple of hours. The displays ranged from items used in crimes, firearms, Police Uniforms, and vehicles. The outside was very cool looking definitely felt like an old jail but the inside was clean and modernized. If you're in Pigeon Forge . . . READ MORE

Love this museum! However, unless you have a coupon or deal, skip the audio and the detective experience and definitely skip the heist. The audio is just annoying because you have to search for a number then try and listen with so much other stuff going on in the background. The detective experience is not worth it because again you're too concerned with filling out that book for nothing but a sticker. The heist is for little kids, all you do is run around a small room and hit laser lights. Just do the museum it was very cool and I couldn't believe some of the things they actually have in there that are not replicas. If you are into true crime, you'll really . . . READ MORE
